Fair Housing Act Accessibility Evaluations
Commercial Assessments is the only provider of Fair Housing Act Accessibility Evaluations nationwide. These evaluations are provided to multifamily property owners, builders, developers, and architects in order to help minimize and eliminate their liability for violations of the design & construction requirements of the Fair Housing Act Amendment of 1988.
There has been a dramatic rise in lawsuits related to these often-overlooked requirements. The Fair Housing Act requirements are extremely complex and it takes an expert to really determine compliance. In addition to evaluations, Commercial Assessments also provides training seminars to apartment associations on this issue and have been recognized as experts by the National Apartment Association and the National Multi-Housing Council.
Commercial Assessments inspects each building for compliance with Fair Housing Act Guidelines including but not limited to: slopes and cross slopes of walkways and ramps, door widths, electrical and energy control locations, thresholds, and bathroom wall reinforcements.
- We help buyers of multifamily real estate determine if properties adhere to Fair Housing Act accessibility guidelines.
- We work with developers by auditing plans or evaluating properties on-site, to help limit accessibility liability.
- And we can help current owners avoid compliance-related lawsuits with our accessibility compliance evaluations and solution-oriented services.
Consultations including recommendations for corrections and retro-fitting-cost estimates are also available. Fees range by property size and amenities.
